«They must be holy (the Oblates), especially perfumed by that great virtue which is the soul of the Opera, Christian Charity, the love of God and neighbour: solidly based on works and not on desire, love which treats the neighbour as oneself, I would say more than oneself » (Am. 13.10.46).
Formation is a permanent fact of Christian and religious life. It will be carried out in a more intense and profound way in some strong moments of the consecrated life, both as a preparatory phase for the total offering of ourselves to the Lord, and as the improvement of certain elements, which will characterize the rest of our life (PC 18).
The stages that characterize the journey of initial formation to religious life in our Congregation are the postulancy, the novitiate and the first or temporary vows. These three moments are closely linked to each other and are aimed at the common goal of preparing the Oblates for perpetual profession (PC 5), to live out their vocation in fidelity to God through the specific service that belongs to our Church in the world.
